Financial Planning Week: Live Your Today. Plan Your Tomorrow.

Financial Planning Week (FPW): 5 to 9 October 2026
World Financial Planning Day: 7 October 2026

Led by the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPi), Financial Planning Week is an annual initiative that helps South Africans understand their finances and the value of financial planning and advice. It’s about more than money. It’s about knowing where you are today, where you want to be in the future, and having a plan to get there.

Why financial planning matters

Life doesn’t always go according to plan. Your income can change, unexpected expenses can come up and your priorities can shift. A financial plan can help you prepare for these changes while keeping you focused on your goals, whether that’s buying a home, providing for your children, paying off debt, building wealth or preparing for retirement.

Financial planning can help you:

  • Set clear financial goals and make better decisions about your money.
  • Prepare for unexpected expenses and build financial resilience.
  • Stay on track as your goals and circumstances change.

Building a Secure Future

Financial planning is for everyone

Financial planning isn’t only for people who have a lot of money. It can help anyone make better decisions about their money and plan for the future. Whatever stage of life you’re in, having a financial plan can help you make the most of what you have today while preparing for tomorrow. Your plan can also change as your life changes, as your income, goals and priorities change, your financial plan should change too.

The value of working with a financial planner

Financial planning looks at your financial life, not just one product or investment. A qualified financial planning professional can help you understand where you are now, identify your priorities and put a plan in place to help you reach your goals. They can also help you review and adjust your plan as your situations change.

Make Financial Planning Week count

Financial Planning Week is a good opportunity to start or revisit your financial plan. You could start by reviewing your budget, building an emergency fund, checking your insurance, updating your will or looking at whether you’re on track for retirement. You don’t have to do everything at once. One step today can make a difference tomorrow.

This Financial Planning Week, take some time to think about your financial future and the life you want to build.
