Carl Muller obtained his BLC in 1994 and his LLB in 1995 from the University of Pretoria. In 2008 he obtained his PG Dip In Fin Plan (UFS) and in 2009 his Adv PG Dip In Fin Plan (UFS) and his LLM (Tax Law) (UNISA).
He was admitted as an attorney in 1997, and practiced as such before joining the Road Accident Fund in 1999.
In 2008 he joined Old Mutual as a legal advisor, assisting financial advisors and clients with estate, retirement and tax planning, business assurance solutions and other financial planning aspects. This role also required the training of financial advisors on financial planning topics and marketing sessions with clients. In 2012 he was promoted to legal advisor manager, managing a team of legal advisors, whist still assisting financial advisors and their clients. In 2018 he joined the Old Mutual Personal Finance legal team, where he assisted Old Mutual Personal Finance and Broker Division legal advisors, gave legal opinions on client complaints, dealt with legal aspects of media and marketing material and gave legal input in relation to software tools used by financial advisors.
In May 2022 he joined Private Wealth Management in the capacity of legal executive, dealing with, corporate legal/governance, client legal matters, the outsourced fiduciary function, legal risk prevention and other matters related to the PWM group of companies.
His articles have been published in De Rebus, Insurance & Tax, Old Mutual Premiums & Problems Article Edition and Landbou Weekblad.
He is a co-editor of and contributor to Old Mutual Premiums and Problems Exam Edition and Old Mutual Premiums and Problems Article Edition.
He has lectured in the fields of retirement planning and insurance and risk management for the Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning for students at the University of Stellenbosch Business School since 2014. He is also an examiner in estate planning for the Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning for the University of the free-state.
