Jan van Staden matriculated from Hoer Volksskool Heidelberg and it was then that he decided to further his studies at Rand Afrikaans University in BCom Investment Management and with his tertiary education did he complete his Honours in Economics, Masters in Economics and finally attended the University of the Free State to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning. He also became a member of the SA Institute of Stock Brokers in 2003.
Jan started his working career in the Rand Afrikaans University Economics Division where he held the role as student lecturer for three years. He then spent the following 19 years as Senior Portfolio Manager at Standard Bank, Senior Portfolio Manager/Stockbroker at SMK Securities and an Executive Position at Barnard Jacobs Mellet (BJM) respectively.
FirstRand acquired the listed entity of BJM after which Jan held the role of the CEO of the Wealth and Investment Cluster for FNB Wealth. His mandate was to grow the Wealth and Investment services and offerings into the FirstRand Group. He was further involved in setting up Ashburton as the investment pillar of FirstRand and served on the Ashburton stratco. Jan also served on the FNB Wealth Segments Executive Committee, the Wealth and Investment Stratco and designated Wealth and Investment Mancos.
Jan joined the MMI group in 2014 where he played an integral part in restructuring the group’s investment business. Jan was the head of portfolio management and Stock Broking for MMI until 2019.
Since 2019 Jan persued a career as an independent financial advisor and entrepreneur by forming a new group www.iFSP.co.za.
